Look who got gussied up!

Well I was enjoying a little down time on the holiday Monday whilst the wife and extended family visited St. Jacobs so I figured I'd give my weapon of mass destruction a cleaning. My paintball gun is one of my prize posessions. Purchased at a steal of a hundred bucks I always enjoy anihilating kids with their thousand dollar guns (gifts from Mommy) with it. I hadn't cleaned it since my last outing so I figured I'd strip it down and clean it up. Don't know if I've ever posted a pic of it before so here she is :)



I've also been watching the Sopranos Season 2 all weekend so I loaded my paintball gun up with ball bearings and shot the old bitch next door.

Wow, what a terrible night of paintball. Generally speaking I dominate the field when I play paintball most nights. Tonight the competition wasn't particularly fierce but I just couldn't get anything going. I was missing easy shots and overall stinking up the field.

On top of that my pods opened up mid-game and spilled about 15 dollars worth of paint all over the place. Not only that my custom Lexan trigger I built for my paintball gun? It broke in mid-game. Needless to say not my finest hour.

Next time I'm going for blood!

I did kick the crap out of my brother in law in one game though so all is well

My Wife just does not get the male need to upgrade. I don't understand the need for 20 pairs of shoes. Men and women are just different inthat aspect.

Last night when playing paintball I was thinking I could use a new barrel control bore to tighten up my accuracy. When I was playing hockey on Thursday I was thinking I could really use a nice composite fibre-lite stick. When I rollerblade.... Okay my rollerblades are the coolest shit ever so they don't need any more love.

Regardless every hobby I have and every toy I own I always have a desire to pimp it out, supe it up or upgrade it to maximum performance. Of course being a realistic guy I know I shouldn't and most times I don't but I can't keep my inner tinkerer from wanting more speed, more finesse and damnit more power

Another good night of paintball except all that painty taste in my mouth.

Some people are just pricks and tonight they definitely weren't me. The term bonus balling really came into affect tonight. After hitting me once (and me putting my hand up and calling myself out) a guy on the other team proceeded to shoot me another 7 times after I already submitted to his deluge of paint. The same player was accused of "overshooting" twice in the same 2 minute game. What a prick.

I on the other hand was a gentleman. I did a run thru on the right side of the field and caught the back left player all alone. It was just a little 4' tall kid with an Ion and I barrel tagged him to let him know he was out. He thanked me for not bunkering the crap out of him. I did another run through later and did the same to another player screaming "MERCY!" instead of drowning him in paint.

A coworker of mine actually joined me for tonight's festivities and showed himself to have the eye of the tiger for the paintballins. He was diving into the snake like a pro in no time. He even dove through the center of the X which I thought was inventive and aggressive both good things. Looking forward to molding him in my image

Gotta strip and lube tonight but it won't be fun.

Whenever I think of playing paintball I relish the actual playing of the game. I do not however relish the idea of maintaining my equipment. For those out there who use Tippmans (the AK-47 of paintball guns) maintenance involves squeezing two drops of oil into the bottle adapter and shooting it. My paintball gun is not so forgiving. My marker is considered “High End” which has the benefits of minimal recoil, ridiculous rates of fire, higher accuracy and greatly improved airflow and regulation. If the Tippy is a club the Wrath is a samurai sword.

Unfortunately this samurai sword has low pressure hoses, barbs, a solenoid and more electronics than the nightstand in a divorcee’s bedroom. The process of stripping, cleaning and reassembling my marker is arduous at best. So tonight after hockey I’m looking forward to about 2 hours in the living room with a news paper removing pieces, oiling and reassembling. Yippee. Although it’s all worth it tomorrow night when I’m mowing faces like no-one’s business.

1 in 9 odds my ass! I’m currently at 12 Roll up the Rim cups and 0 Victories! This happens to me every year! Eventually I’ll get a couple in a row in which I’ll win and my odds will balance out but my first run is always terrible. Generally speaking my luck is rather good but in the last few weeks it’s quite obvious (particularly if you read my posts) that I have not been lucky.

Today alone I had two teas and a coffee at Tim Hortons and I got nothing. Not even a freakin' donut. And even if I did get a donut I can't eat it anyway. I've kind of sworn off donuts of late. Though I did have some for breakfast the other day... but that doesn't count.

Anyway zee weekend is almost here and I'm playing paintball tomorrow night so yay!

That was a weak post. Sorry they can't all be winners ;)

Weekend of Conquest... more or less

Well from Thursday of last week to Sunday of this week I was having myself a complete guygasm of activity. Thursday night was hockey. And Thursday night's hockey game usually goes poorly for me. I'm generally outskilled by most people on the ice and spend most of my time trying not to fall down. However on a break out of my team's end the left-winger launched a pass to meet me right before the blue line (to avoid the ol' 2 line pass) and send me on a break-away. A last minute deke to my backhand and a quick flip I shoveled one into the top of the net for my first goal in about 7 games.

Friday night saw me at the local paintball field on cheapie night. First time using the Wrath since I've had it tech'ed by NPS I was excited to see what she was capable of. I was not disappointed. Game 1 of 7 vs 7 speedball I took out two players before getting taken out at the mid field. Game 2 I took out the sole defender on the right side of the field and went on to complete my first run through to take out 6 other players. That's the entire team for those keeping track. The highlight of the night saw me sprinting across the field to dive over the snake and take out an enemy player while in midair. I'm a hotdog what can I say.

Saturday night was poker night in suburbia and in a tournament of 20-some people I roughed up the competition on the final table to pull in a large stack of chips then with a lot of tight-aggressive play I managed to make it all the way to the second place finish and $110 bucks in my pocket.

Sunday was my late night hockey game and my legs were still aching from Friday night's paintball acrobatics. Once I got on the ice I ended up getting switched from the light team (definitely the better group) to the slightly undergunned dark team. Surprisingly enough I held my own, picking off a pass from a coworker to turn the goalie inside-out on a break-away, slamming home a juicy rebound from the opposition's goalie and finally one-timing a perfect pass from the back of the net to log my first hat-trick. All in all it was a very successful couple of days. Although I'm looking forward to getting reaquainted with my wife who I've abandoned for the past 4 nights (bad husband!)

People who say that 2nd place is the first loser are probably the same people that get 5th place

Flipping Markers

A while back I tried to build what would be known as a "Spyder VES." It basically incorporated parts from different paintball guns I picked up at the forums on PBReview.com. There was a TES Gripframe for $20 bucks, a Spyder Victor body for $20 bucks a black drop forward for $7, an On/Off ASA for $10.

I also added some premium parts that would later end up on my wrath like a Custom Products Regulator (which I will keep forever) and a Shocktech Drop Forward (Ditto.) Anyway when I first built this beast it tore asses like no tomorrow. However the first game I attempted to play with it, it stopped working :-/

What a pisser! So I figured I'd pissed away my money on a useless paperweight. The funny thing is it turned out to be a solid investment. I turned around and took the parts and put them on EBay. Much to my (pleasant) surprise the TES Frame sold for $45 and the Spyder body sold for over $30. Not to mention the typical EBay overcharge on shipping. When it was all said and done I actually made $35 bucks on my failed marker attempt.

So I'm taking that one step further now, I recently purchased a Piranha EForce GTI on PBReview and I'm going to clean it up, lube it, take a couple of videos of it running in tip-top shape and and put it up on EBay. I'm hoping to get around $100 bucks for it at a minimum (based on some research around similar markers.) If this prooves successful, I might have found a great way to fund my paintballing :)

Custom Made Wrath Trigger

Well I might not be the handiest of handymen (my leaking faucet in the laundry room would attest to that) but I'm no slouch with a rotary tool. With the Christmas weekend approaching I got today off so I decided to head to the basement, listen to some Christmas tunes and tinker around with power tools! I took a 12" square piece of lexan and cut out a section about 1/4" by 2 1/2 inches and started to work. First I Stenciled my stock trigger onto the lexan, then I adjusted the lines slightly to give a little hook at the bottom. From there I foolishly trimmed down the block with a hacksaw and files. Once I smartened up I put a grinding drum attachment on my rotary tool, fired her up to 3500 RPM and easily made the shape you see. From there I tapped three holes for the pre-travel, activation and over-travel adjustments, modified some screws with a hacksaw to make them set screws then smoothed the whole thing out with the rotary tool. All told it took me about 2.5 hours of work, if I had all my tools within arm's reach I could probably do it again in about 40 minutes. I might do another and put it on EBay and see what kind of reaction it gets.

Now if I only ever played fricken paintball!

It's all in how you use it

Don’t get me wrong (especially if you’re my wife ;) ) I’m not in the market for a new paintball gun. Right now I have a Diablo Wrath which - while not the bleeding edge juiciness - is still awesome. The Wrath to your average rental paintball gun is as Michael Richards is to Political Correctness. But I digress.

The newest wave of paintball guns promise, lighter, faster and for the first time in probably half a decade some new design ideas. The herald of the new generation in my opinion would be the Invert Mini. Not only crazy tiny and light package but with the promise of no hoses (the bane of any amateur paintball tech) less moving parts, and simple slide out circuit boards the Mini is doing a lot of things right.

Not to mention the thing slings paint like no one’s business. Coming in at approximately $450 bucks at launch the Invert Mini will no doubt be kicking the shit out of noobs at fields near you any day now.

Oh and if National Paintball Supply is reading this, I’d love a free trial ;)
